Our Mission

SkillUp provides a guided and supported path to ensure every worker has high-opportunity employment.

We aim to help 100,000 individuals secure high-opportunity employment by 2025.

Who We Are

Joining Together for America’s Workers

SkillUp is a nonprofit that connects workers with the right tools, resources and support, so they can make confident career shifts, find quality living-wage jobs, and position themselves for promising career growth.

Our History:

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken an economic toll on America’s workers. To address this critical need, we launched the SkillUp Coalition in July 2020, an upskilling non-profit coalition built to help America’s laid-off and furloughed workers access the training and employment opportunities they need to secure a place in the economy of the future.

Rather than push workers back into jobs just like the ones they left, SkillUp allows workers to leverage current skills while building new skills that are suited to in-demand jobs with promising career paths.

Now three years later, SkillUp comprises over 100 organizations including training and education providers, tech firms, employers, and philanthropies. We have connected over 1.6 Million workers to career and training supports throughout the country and are eager to reach even more in the coming years.

We proudly support all workers, at any stage of their journey, and create an affordable, equitable, upskilling ecosystem that allows anyone the opportunity to claim their career.

FAQs

General Questions

So, how does SkillUp work? Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear.

What exactly is upskilling?

Upskilling is the act of acquiring more career skills and connections through additional short-term education and training.

I am confused, how do I get started with SkillUp?

You likely found our site by an ad, Google search, or just browsing. We are a non-profit geared at helping workers find training and jobs in in-demand industries through our easy-to-use career navigation platform. What does that mean for YOU?

On our site, you can explore different careers, apply to jobs, find career coaching, navigate career resources, read blogs that spread a variety of topics, and much more. Our site is equipped to help anyone in any career navigation phase.

Are you looking for a new career? Interested in remote jobs? Unsure where to get started?

Make a profile here, and then set your milestone to “land a job” or “start career training”.

From there, you can explore various career training and look at open jobs (both remote and in-person).

We know this might be a very stressful time for you and we’ve built SkillUp to quickly provide relief to you and others in need. Our free tool can help you discover in-demand jobs available to you now or after a short training program. Creating a personal profile also allows our team to serve up personalized recommendations and resources that best meet your interests. You will also receive ongoing communication from our team on new training, new employers and weekly career coaching.

Are you located near me?

Our training providers are located in various locations across the US, in select locations, with more expansion in 2024 and 2025, as well as online.

We also have a remote job board with thousands of remote and in-person jobs spread through the US.

SkillUp is an online platform so we do not have physical locations but if you are looking for training or jobs, you can filter by in-person or online via our platform.

Is SkillUp Real?

We know there are a lot of scams out there, or websites that seem too good to be true. SkillUp is a nonprofit that connects workers with the right tools, resources and support, so they can make confident career shifts, find quality living-wage jobs, and position themselves for promising career growth.

SkillUp comprises over 100 organizations including training and education providers, tech firms, employers, and philanthropies. We have connected over 1.6 Million workers to career and training supports throughout the country and are eager to reach even more in the coming years.

We proudly support all workers, at any stage of their journey, and create an affordable, equitable, upskilling ecosystem that allows anyone the opportunity to claim their career.

I already started training in an industry somewhere else, but I need more training, can SkillUp help me?

The best way to navigate this would be to look at our training catalog, and see if we offer the additional training you need. You can also check out our career catalog

We update our training page monthly based on national demands, labor research, and other data points.

I don't see the training I need on the SkillUp site. How do I find a specific training?

We use a variety of factors to determine which trainings we have on our website such as projected career and industry growth, graduation success rate, and cost, just to name a few. We are not just another job board because we are using a fine tuned and targeted approach to help our users find training best suited to them and around the growth in the job market.

If you have reviewed our training catalog, and looked through our careers and do not see the training you need, we likely do not offer it at the moment. Check back as we update our career training periodically.

I need help interviewing or with a resume or job search.

Check out our bi-weekly career coaching that spans a variety of career-related topics or browse our blog where you can find resources for interviewing and much more.

What do you mean by ‘in-demand jobs’?

SkillUp helps people discover jobs that pay well, plus offer opportunities for growth and advancement. Our career catalog spans business, technology, healthcare, skilled trades, and supply chain.

How much do training programs cost? Will I have to take on debt? Do you offer Financial Aid?

SkillUp itself does not offer financial aid, but many of our training providers do, depending on the state they are in and the program. And many of our programs are free or low cost.

Do you provide personal coaching or other 1:1 support?

We do offer small group career coaching sessions (virtually) on a bi-weekly basis. Sign up for your next coaching session here: https://www.skillup.org/free-career-coaching/

How long does it take to do training and get a new job?

Our training programs can all be completed in less than 12 months, with many in as little as 6 weeks. Some of our training providers offer wraparound support services that help you after you complete job training. For our partners that offer training certifications only, we recommend you attend our coaching sessions and read our blogs that are continuously updated with tips on how to apply, how to improve your resume, standing out in the job market, and much more.

Does SkillUp help me with training placement or getting a job?

SkillUp is here to help guide you into the right tools, training, coaching session, blog, or job application best suited for you. You would work directly with the training provider to ask training program-related questions, as well as job application-related questions.

Our site is intended to be used during your job search and onward, as well as during your time doing training and onward. We welcome and encourage you to leverage our resources to help you along the way.

The Future of Rapid Reskilling

With people living longer and changing careers more often, a new form of education — one that doesn’t end at a single vocational program or college degree — is going to be needed to put more people on the path to realizing their potential.

And that’s where SkillUp comes in.
