You don’t have to live in Silicon Valley to enjoy the rewards of entering the tech industry. Every single industry needs professionals skilled in technology. Every company needs a fully functioning IT department to handle requests that range from new user set-up, computer and software troubleshooting to coding, cyber security and systems analysis. While this may all sound complicated, it doesn’t have to be. If you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a professional in the technology industry and you reside in Dallas County, Texas, we have some great news for you! Opportunity College, YUPRO Placement, and SkillUp have teamed up to offer a Career Jumpstart Fellowship to help you land your first PAID apprenticeship in IT!
What is the Career Jumpstart Fellowship – IT Apprenticeship?
This training and apprenticeship program is designed for Dallas-based students aged 18 – 24 who are interested in landing their first full-time role in Information Technology. Participants will first complete 4 months of FREE training with Opportunity College, earning a Google IT Support Certificate. Any student who successfully completes the 4-month training and certification will earn a 6-month PAID apprenticeship role at a YUPRO Placement employer in an IT-related role. Apprenticeships will pay at least $19/hr + benefits – meaning you could earn upwards of $18,000 in six months.
You do not need to have a degree or prior technical skills to participate in this program. According to Opportunity College, “the curriculum is designed to help students explore career interests, develop personal and professional skills; and complete job-specific training to earn and thrive in living-wage jobs that don’t require a bachelor’s degree.”
What will I learn to be prepared for my apprenticeship??
The world of IT has many valuable and exciting career paths that are available once you have a strong foundational skill set. During the free training, students will gain exposure to a host of IT technical skills including building a computer from scratch, cloud computing, cyber security, configuring systems, foundations in database management, and much more. Students will also gain exposure to other professional skills that are in-demand by employers such as interviewing skills, SMART goal setting, critical thinking, developing a growth mindset, time management, and engaging with feedback. After creating a technical resume, cover letter, and earning their Google IT Support Certificate students will start their paid apprenticeship placement. The program partners’ goal is that apprentices who are successful in their 6-month placements will be invited to full-time roles at their employer placements.
