How to stay motivated in the final months of the year!

On This Page

As the summer months wrap up and we approach fall, it is important to look back and reflect on everything you’ve accomplished in the first half of the year and to also see what you have to look forward to. It is possible to stay motivated and have a positive mindset despite the winter blues and the stress of the quickly approaching holiday season!

Staying motivated during the holidays

As the seasons change, it is a great time to reflect on everything you were able to accomplish this year and check in to see where there may be room to grow. Try asking yourself the following:

  • Are you reaching your career goals for this year?
  • Did you set achievable and relevant goals for yourself?
  • Are you ready to take strides to get where you want to be?

It is also a great time to create a list of goals for the final months of the year. Remember that these goals do not need to be and shouldn’t be complicated. Try setting attainable goals, like 10 minutes of time every morning to organize your work day, or learning a new skill at your current job or online. Try setting both short and long term goals that are relevant to your overall career priorities.

It is important to recognize that during your time of reflection, you may discover that you are not getting the results you want. Try tackling one thing at a time in your life instead of attempting to tackle everything all at once. Anticipate that life will get busy in these last months of the year, especially with the school year starting and the holiday season fast approaching. So understand what it takes for you to personally handle the change of pace.

Navigating career conversations around the holidays

We know that there are a lot of stressors that you hear about—inflation, increasing home prices, high gas prices, and raising interest rates. If you have personal goals that are tied to your professional goals, remember to be kind to yourself and know that everything happens when the timing is right. To equip yourself to handle conversations around the holidays with families or friends surrounding your career, remember that you can control how much you share and how you talk about your plans. While you can’t control what responses will be, you can remind yourself that you have the ability to maintain a positive mindset. Don’t let circumstances out of your control impact your motivation to reach your goals.
